Lightning Talks!
So how about the meeting attendees come with their own 1-2 minute topic of how Linux is used by them to get something done. Maybe the first project you did using Linux that convinced you Linux was a tool that you wanted to know more about.
As Thursday is St. Patrick’s day, we will certainly adjourn to Melton’s for libations. The crowd there may be larger than normal.
Please email Jim or JD off list ASAP if you want to present.
The ALE Central meeting will be held at 7:30 pm in the usual location at Emory. The topic will be “LVM – A modern tool for laptops and servers.”
Check the ALE-Central location link for how to get to the room.
The slide deck is now available.

November’s topic will be LVM, Logical Volume Management. What it is, how it works, how to use it and when not to use it will be discussed. Additionally some “gotcha’s” that cause heartburn will be covered as well.
We will meet at 7:30 at the ALE-Central location.
It’s time for another ALE-Central meeting!
Your truly will discuss factors to consider when designing a Linux cluster for various types of needs. Cluster types include: web servers, database replication, file servers, HPC systems, and the most important type, backup servers.
As usual, we will meet at the ALE-Central location at 7:30, talk about stuff for about an hour and a half or so and then relocate to Meltons for post meeting snacks and libations.
Things are moving along on this. I (Jim Kinney) became the official organizer of the GA-400 site about a week ago. The folks at Meetup.com have been very helpful in the transition.
Some stuff that’s needed is a new banner. The old ALE banner is looking dated. Maybe it’s time to generate a new one – 960x160px. Got an offer to help from Jason (THANKS!!) so between the two of us we may have some to look in a a short time.
JD has been a huge help in wrangling/hijacking helping make this merger happen :-)Â Ever few days now I get a phone call or email from a new person looking at ALE because of the GA 400 group pointing them our way.
As soon as we figure out how, we will setup some sub groups to accommodate the growing distance between meeting – central, top-end, NW and now Southside. YAY!
