[ale] cdwriter locks up box

I had my cdwriter working fine.  I hadn't used it in a while though.  I
just tried using it the first time since my upgrade to Mandrake 8.0
(kernel 2.4.3) and it locked up my box tight. Mouse/keyboard wouldn't
respond and I couldn't ping or telnet.  After I powered it off, I found
the following in my log files:

Jul 23 13:44:12 denali kernel: scsi0 : channel 0 target 0 lun 0 request
sense failed, performing reset.

About 10 of them.

Anyone else had any problems like this?
