^In response to my earlier question...I have already turned off PnP. The
^3C509 does not get recognized at boot time. Will upgrading to 2.+ do the
^trick in the computer seeing the ethernet card?
Hmmm, PNP is the #1 culprit in these case (3 days of long work for me).
Double, nay triple check PNP doing:
the pnpdsbl.bat file and
the setup file.
Try a different card? Maybe a bad a card.
The 3com card is the one I reccomend for Linux systems. The driver is
great! Since 1.2.1!
Some other possibilites:
Try a different slot. 10 is a 16 bit only irq. I just had a probelm
with one slot in my system not working for a 16 bit card. I emptied
the system and cleaned it (the power supply blew). And then linux
did not detect the card. So I did the standards and then checked the
dos programs. Speciifically the ne2000 setup program diag test
passed, but when, on a whim, I tried to write the info to the eeprom,
it informed me of the 16 bit problem (all slots on this system are 16
bit). Switch slots, bam it worked.
Run the diag/setup, make sure it is BnC (shouldn't effect detect, wait a
minute if it is set to "auto detect" I had a prblem with it not
working once before, hmmm, force it to BnC).
Try the card in dos, on a different system.
Sometimes (on the ne2000 esp) the card address interfers with another
auto prbe (like the LTP). Try some distance setting (must be set in
dos). I paid my ISP bill this summer on that one.
