I've been using a Samsung 28" 4K monitor for a few years now and have generally been happy with it. Even though I usually like a very small font on my terminal windows, I had to increase it a bit; and I fairly often find myself hitting ctrl-+ on browser windows. The tradeoff in screen (& pixel) real estate seems worth it for me, but the only coworker to go the same route is a UX designer using a Mac, not linux or windows. A larger one would likely be better if you had the desk space for it.
I abandoned a KVM in favor of 'synergy', and only use my built-in speakers.
later!

Finding a good, cheap, KVM seems to be very difficult today. My Belkin OmniCube has been solid (PS2 connectors and VGA). Think I can switch to USB for the keyboard and mouse now.
