Hello ALE,

My name is Jacob Zelko and this is my first posting to ALE.

I am currently transitioning from Debian based Linux OS's (e.g. Debian,
Ubuntu, and Raspbian) to the Fedora 30 KDE Plasma Spin from Red Hat. I am
really liking the OS but one thing I am running up against is the problem
of backing up and restoring Fedora 30.

On Ubuntu, I used to use an awesome utility called Timeshift
<https://itsfoss.com/backup-restore-linux-timeshift/> which would basically
create snapshots of my OS and I could save those snapshots to an external
mass storage device for safekeeping. It saved my life many a time while
either hacking on the kernel or breaking a desktop environment!

I tried searching for something analogous for Fedora but to no avail. So, I
was wondering if anyone knows of a solution that could address my needs
enumerated below:

1. Perform system back-up of Fedora 30
2. Write back-up to an external media (mass storage device)
3. Restore Fedora 30 from external media and everything is back and the same

Ideally, I want to be able to restore my computer like how you can restore
VM's with snapshots - to a previous state.

So far, I have checked out tools like rsync and Borg but I am uncertain of
how to exactly use them in my use case. I just don't want to blow up my
system (again... Can neither confirm nor deny that I have had to reflash
Fedora back on to my computer 3 times in the span of a week).

Any suggestions, solutions, or thoughts to get me on the right track? Thank
you!

Sincerely,
