If anyone is following behind Paul and me, note that on my computer, I
had a whale of a time getting X to run as a normal user, even though I'd
done the usual suid on /usr/bin/X*.
Then I noticed that the partition housing /usr (the root partition,
actually), was mounted nouid. I removed nouid and bang, X worked
perfectly.
