ALErs -

I'm still sorting and planning for my Fry's 'GQ' laptop and I'm not sure
what to make of its builtin Wim[p]modem.

1. The WinXPHole device manager identifies it as an "Agere AC'97".
(Evidently there _is_ an AC97 codec in there somewhere.)

2. Knoppix (Debian) Linux discovers it (per '/proc/pci/') as:

Bus 0, device 2, function 6:
Modem: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] Intel 537 [56k Winmodem] (Rev 160).
 IRQ 18.
 Master Capable. Latency=64. Min Gnt=52.Max Lat=11.

3. Freeduc-1.4.1 ('nother Knoppix/Debian variant) discovers it as:

Bus 0, device 2, function 6:
Modem: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 56k Winmodem
 (Smart Link HAMR5600 compatible) (Rev 160). <<--<<
 IRQ 10. <<--<<
 ...

QUESTION:
What do I seem to have here, and does anyone think it could fuction as a
linmodem (ltmodem or ???).

I posted a PDF scan of the laptop's specs at:

It looks like a knockoff, or rebranded, Acer, though I don't have an exact
configuration match.

TIA for any suggestions.
