[ale] which distro

Slackware - desktop and laptop. Stable, small footprint, pkgtool is
straightforward and intuitive, things don't seem to randomly get moved around to
distro specific places as much, Patrick is rather security minded, and at least
a few more reasons which don't occur to me pre-coffee. IOW, it just works.

RH, SuSE, Mandrake all were/had problems on my IBM 600x laptop - issues ranging
from mouse aggravations (minor) to disappearing root passwords (Very Bad)
{recreated and verified in front of witnesses who all wrote down the incredibly
easy test password, so, no, I didn't just forget the password.} OTOH, Slackware
(and OpenBSD) install and perform smooth as silk with no hiccups or headaches.
No playing find the driver, or guess which library moved, or any of those other
fun games some other distro's seem to like to play with me.

Never tried Debian, so no comment there, but we had Gentoo on a machine or two
for a while. Very granular control, stable, but the initial install is
reminiscent of a Zen koan. LFS is more a roll-your-own sort of beast, a control
freak's paradise and excellent teacher, but a bit more work than I like to have
to do.

Excuse me, please. What universe is this?
