Okay, so I'm still trying to figure out why this one box doesn't like 
being networked.  Here's the poop:

Box in question, pentium 200 mmx, SuSE 9.0 pro, minimum install. (ibm box)

integrated nic is recognized, configured, but no throughput.
adding various pci nics, none are ever seen by the box.
adding a different type of pci card (tv card) is recognized by the box.
lspci does not show the pci nic, but shows the integrated one as well as 
the tv card.

Further:

2nd box pentium 100, SuSE 9.0 pro, minimum install (hp box)

same pci network cards in a different box work fine.
adding two different network cards to the 2nd box, both are recognized.
lspci shows both nics as does yast.

Anyone have any ideas?  (I really should trash this box, but curiosity 
kills the geek...)
