Check out the latest LinuxUser & Developer magazine. Their cover feature
"Lights, camera, Linux!" talks about the movie industry and their move to
Linux and open source products for film making. Dreamworks combines HP
computers, Red Hat Linux, and software such as Cinepaint (Film Gimp), Maya,
Lightwave 3d, and Side Effects Houdini to create the bulk of the films we
see currently.

A couple of interesting quotes from the article are:

"Dreamworks considered all the options and balanced the alternatives of
going with Windows, Linux, or BSD" (they went with Linux)

and

"The $5,000 Linux workstation was running circles around the $35,000
machine"

Although not mentioned in this article (think it was in Linux Journal), the
Hulk used a beowulf cluster to render (with Renderman) the CGI effects.
Star Wars III will use twice the power to bring George Lucas's vision to the
screen.

The LU&D issue also comes with a three disk binary version of Red Hat 9.

now if we could just see Tux on the screen at the end of the credits...
