An update. I had actually managed to hit linuxprinting.org with Google,  
and not realized it. <grrr> On the basis of more exploration on 
linuxprinting.org, and general frustration, and that I expect she will 
want to print more pictures, I think I'll invest in an Epson or HP for 
her, and save the battle of the printer for later. Now to find out if she 
wants to go with just a printer, or one of those all-in-one jobbies... 
(I'm hoping just the printer).
