[ale] OT: Pings from Oracle

I have a local Apache/Tomcat application that interfaces w/ a remote
Oracle database via JDBC. Whenever I fire up the application, I see
multiple ping attempts from the Oracle database. I am dropping all
incoming pings at the firewall, so the pings from Oracle are dropped.
The application works fine, so I guess the pings aren't critical. Does
anyone know why Oracle is trying to ping the web server? Is it some sort
of keep-alive functionality related to JDBC??? I'm trying to find out if
I should change my firewall ruleset to allow pings from the Oracle
database.
