I saw the show from section 105 row C. I had my binoculars so had a
great view of the show. Rush is still the best in my opinion (very
biased!). This was my first show at the Philips Arena and I thought is
was a great venue. Of course, my ears are still not back to normal. I
didn't take earplugs and the band was VERY loud. Was that the first
time Cygnus X-1 was ever played live? I hadn't ever heard that before.
Also, I think the new album, Vital Signs, sound much better live than
on the album. Maybe I just need to play it louder! ;-)
Vernard, your right about the arena seating. The focus is shifted from
the center to the end of the arena, so you end straining your neck,
standing turned sidewise to your seat, or your so far away you need
binoculars. I did like the extra large video screen behind the band.
When they played "Spirit of the Radio" you could see the fingering
patterns used by Alex Lifeson on the guitar very clearly. I was
checking to see if I had it right! In college, instead of studying, I'd
play guitar along with my Rush albums. I would work from "Rush" thru
"Grace Under Pressure" in one full day of playing!! Forget classes!
The most fun was playing "Natural Science" at double normal rotational
speed (my record player had adjustable speeds) and trying to keep up!
Suffice to say I had a great time last night and also writing this
email!! Sincerely,
Dow
