[ale] How to switch login screen from Gnome to KDE

In RedHat, the file /etc/sysconfig/desktop has variable

DESKTOP="GNOME"

Change it to "KDE" or "KDE2"

log out of X and hit ctl-alt-backspace

If it doesn't come up from that key sequence, you will need to get a
command line root login, telinit 3, killall -9 gdm, telinit 5

/etc/X11/prefdm is searched for what to do on xdm startup.
