[ale] on bootup RH7.2 gets to 'LI' and stalls,but will bootup/run fine from emerg. floppy..........

I've seen this problem on my system. The solution was to change the LBA
feature in the hard disk portion of the bios, reboot from the emergency
floppy, and then reinstall lilo to the master boot record.
