I believe this has to do with the linking of /usr/include/linux to the 
/usr/src/linux/include, not the creation of a symlink to /usr/src/linux.

The README used to have you remove /usr/include and create linkage 
between the new kernel source and /usr/include, but it no longer 
contains that step, indicating they took Linus' advice.

I didn't have to buy my radio from a specific company to listen
to FM, why doesn't that apply to the Internet (anymore...)?
