At first read, it sounds like you're trying to bash the PS2 for sporting both 
options and enabling a wider audience to online play.  Maybe I misread 
that..?

True, the hard drive helps here.  Isn't there an HD option [available | in the 
works] for the PS2?  (See my previous post on this topic -- still awaiting 
responses there.  I know of the linux kit, but heard rumors that the online 
adapter may have an IDE interface as well.)  And there were an HD option, 
would it perform the same way?

You've got to be kidding?  A game's soundtrack is sometimes half the 
experience.  Are we really so impatient with software these days that we 
can't stand to listen to the given soundtrack?  I hope these are just the 
cheesier games that you speak of (those which may perhaps not have 
soundtracks as impressive as, for example, the FF series).
