Kernel compiles will stress test a box! If that's not enough, compile X!
You'll find out which cpu has heat problems very fast on a compile.
There is also a program called memtest that checks every bit in ram.
There is also a kernel patch that will allow use of bad ram. It will take
2 boots to fully run. It tests the ram and marks the bad spots and then
won't use them. I don't know where the "badram" patch is stored. Try
Freshmeat and Google.
