[ale] Laptop Recommendations

I have a Vaio but not one with a metal case.  I have one of the dark
purple cases.  I have seen many awards given to the SR line of Vaio's
(think metal case).  You won't get large screen or big HD but they are
nice.  Would I recommend the FX series of Vaio?  I like mine and got it
for around $1500.  I did have to do some custom tweaking to get the
pcmcia and usb working.  If you need something that is 100% linux ready
out o fthe box then I would look into the IBM thinkpad line.  I think
they have ones on the low end that will fit into your budget.  Also the
HP laptops look cool and I have heard they are pretty compatible with
Linux.
