Go see the guys at AnalogX (www.analogx.com). They have a great little
program that's like gkrellm called Netstat Live. Great tool, monitors
bandwidth and just about anything else : ).

A quick search on google for DSL speed test provides some options. Site
DSLreports.com has a variety of tools available including a Java-based
speed test http://www.dslreports.com/stest for your perusal. As always
with speed tests, your mileage WILL vary.

In the FWIW department, the Telocity/DirectTV DSL gateway boxes keep
such
stats locally for you.
