[ale] Newbie install question

You are right. I get 
LI
and that's it. I have an IBM DHEA 36480 so I went to the IBM site and could
not find a low-level format utility there. Is there a generic one that will
work? or something else that will work. (I tried several suggestions on the
mailist with no luck)...
