MURRAY HILL, N.J. (Dec. 8, 1998) -- Dennis Ritchie and
Ken Thompson of Bell Labs have been awarded the U.S.
National Medal of Technology. It honors breakthrough
concepts and inventions. Thompson and Ritchie were
cited for their invention of the UNIX operating
system and the C programming language.
