 I tried it. It says /cdrom is not a block device

cant understand any of this at all. 

I looked in /var/adm/messages . It says this

mcd-0x300,10 . Init failed.

What's this mean? Is it having trouble finding the cdrom, some kind of
irq mismatch?

it does.
