^I'm trying to set up a slip box unde linux 1.3.85.  I had it working under 1.2.13.

^here is the senario:

^  206.142.5.253 ------------------ 206.142.5.2 ----- 206.142.5.254 (cisco router) 
^        |
^        |
^        |
^ 206.142.5.3 (slip box at home)
^

^When I type ping 206.142.5.254 from the slip machine I recieve no reply.
^When I look in syslog I get DIP cannot determine proxy ARP.

You don't mention a couple of things:
  1) can you ping from 253 to 3?
  2) ping 3->253?
  3) ping 2->3? and back
  4) ping 3->254?


Do you have routed running?

^Does ne1 know how to fix this.  I know if I move the modem to 206.142.5.2 
^a 1.2.13 machine the slip connections work great.   What am I missing.

^I have ip_forward enabled in kernel, but when I do:
^ls -l /proc/net
^I do not see ip_forward.
 hmmm, is it a module in 1.3.x?
