I'm trying to set up a slip box unde linux 1.3.85.  I had it working under 1.2.13.

here is the senario:


  206.142.5.253 ------------------ 206.142.5.2 ----- 206.142.5.254 (cisco router) 
        |
        |
        |
 206.142.5.3 (slip box at home)


When I type ping 206.142.5.254 from the slip machine I recieve no reply.
When I look in syslog I get DIP cannot determine proxy ARP.

Does ne1 know how to fix this.  I know if I move the modem to 206.142.5.2 
a 1.2.13 machine the slip connections work great.   What am I missing.

I have ip_forward enabled in kernel, but when I do:
ls -l /proc/net
I do not see ip_forward.
