^connected to LAN. Initially, I was able to retreive mail remotely with
^window mail client but (POP3) when sending mail remotely, the client
^refuses to connect. I've tried Weudora, Netscape and MS's mail thingy
^all with the same results. SMTP doesn't seem to be working properly.
POP three really only deals with the retrieval of th email. You must set
the smtp hosts correctly.
If you have (Netscape is easiest), check the log files to see
what is happening.
Makure sure sendmail is running in daemon mode.
Remember a local user to local user uses the delvery agent. Try
sending mail from the linux box to the Win 95 machines.
10 to 1 it is the local hosts line in /etc/sendmail.cf
Do a search of "local" in the file. Different distributions do
it differently.
^
^The other problems is with my windows telnet and ftp clients. I can
^ping all day long, but various telnet and ftp clients connect sometimes
^and sometimes not. I'm at a loss right now and could sure use some
^pointers. Any help would be appreciated.
Sound like a local network problem, are you running wrappers infrom of
everythiing (tcp) in inted? If so every connect generates a message in
messages.
Watch them, it will tell you if it is a daemon error vs a netwowrk error.
