That link has a lot of scare tactics.
The goal is to prevent scammers from getting people to install apps unknowingly and then approve money transfers.
For power users that 24-hour waiting period is a one-time only issue. So do it once wait 24 hours then you'll never have to do it again. And you can keep using your Android device with non-signed apps if that's your choice.
There are also non-google-based Android distributions but sadly those seem to only be ported to high-end Samsung or pixel devices costing over $500. I really don't want to spend over $99 for a damn phone. Might just switch to using tablets instead. The maps will be easier to read that way as I get older.
