I stopped reading Dilbert before Adams went off the deep end 
politically, becuase the strips started getting downright _mean_.

He forgot the cardinal rule of comedy in that you're supposed to punch 
_up_ to power, not down onto the powerless.  Somewhere along the way he 
became the very thing he used to mock.

(Adams' career arc reminds me a lot of Ricky Gervais in that respect..)
