I used to live on the water near Houston. The heat and humidity was the worst, but the people and taxes were fine. Flooding from a tropical depression convinced me to move away from sea level and coasts. I enough visiting and it is fairly cheap to rent a place for 5-10 days on the coast ... or visit family in OBX.

State taxes in Georgia will be the reason I leave for a state without income tax. I think there are 13 states with no income tax.

As for spearphishing data - anything can be bought on the dark internet. Lists of clients that use specific businesses included. Sure, reputable data brokers (there really isn't any such thing), anonymizes the data they provide, but around 2005, studies showed that just 3 pieces of data were needed to de-anonymize the records provided by ZIP.

If you don't use a generic, fresh, browser, with almost every site, expect to be tracked. Running firejail --private seems to do a good enough job to thwart capture of anything besides the IP and browser information. Just be certain to start a new firejail --private for each website you don't want to be tracked using. And it wouldn't hurt to use a different userid and perhaps restart the VPN with a different exit node city too.
Privacy and convenience at odds, once again.

The theft of our data needs to be illegal. It isn't a victimless crime when our data is stolen without permission.
