[ale] Accessing Brother scanner from Linux

I'm beginning to look at retirement. I'm on a top500 supercomputer project that the contract has another 8 years on. Not sure I have another 8 years I want to put in. Turning 60 in a few months and having much fun making enameled flowers and jewelry.
