On the other hand, a fresh new install is like spring cleaning: It gets
rid of ghosts of operating systems past and, at least in a
non-rolling-release, brings you back to a known state.

Prophylactic reinstalls are even more important on Windows, which
sooner or later bitrots into oblivion.
