I can certainly see starting off in an admin class without Vi.

I can also see teaching a guitar workshop on right hand strumming 
technique by switching to open tunings and giving each person a little 
piece of PVC pipe for their left hand so they don't have to learn 
chords.

But sooner or later, they gotta learn chords on their left hand.  sooner 
or later they gotta learn VI.

As noted, 'cause it's always there.

As primarily a database developer, 'cause it can edit a data file with a 
million lines in it.
