[ale] So, who do we like for a new 4 port gigabit LAN/WAN Firewall Routers these days?

Yes that’s still a thing.  OpenWrt is very active.  The Ubiquiti ER-X is very well supported by OpenWrt as are a few of the other EdgeRouters.
