Sorry...I didn't mean to kick off a pro/anti SystemD holy war and go offline for the evening.
Here is what I have to say:
1. No, I obviously don't condone anyone threatening Poettering.
2. Based on both personal observation and accounts relayed to me by others who have dealt with him, he is rude, condescending, and has a complete disregard for "the Unix way of doing things" - one of those jerks who just wants to re-invent the wheel, instead of learning how to use the current wheel. He is the guy everyone hates in the workplace.
3. I've been around long enough to have seen Linux evolve, and this part of the "evolution" is sort of like a radiation-induced mutation.
4. As for why it was chosen. SUSE is #2 in the commercial market. If Red Hat adopts something, they have to follow, or spend a huge amount of effort justifying why they didn't/fending off Red Hat's claims of their using "out of date" software.
5. Pulseaudio is a dumpster fire on the back of a train that is in the process of wrecking.
6. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: I deal with SUSE systems almost exclusively for nearly 100% of my job. That means I HAVE to use systemd. It DOES NOT mean I have to like it.
Okay, I'm done commenting on this. Let's move on.
