Both those makers have excellent support reputations.

And like Charles says, if you swap out the vendor firmware for something
aftermarket and check for updates every month, it is probably fine,
provided the after market firmware didn't drop support completely for
your 7 yr old router/NAS.

Of course, if you roll your own NAS/router with a Linux distro that is
supported, it isn't likely to have these issues, assuming you patch
weekly and stay on supported releases.

A few of the routers were popular, Asus/Netgear versions, yes?  And for
the NAS, all the popular "brands" seem to have an issue with one model,
except one of the 2-disk Synology models.
