[ale] Versioned backups are simple now.

The how is easy. The where is the issue.

 The vast pile of junk I use is literally junk at this point. No spinning rust storage younger than 5 (maybe 8?) years old. Tape system is (was) 1st gen LTO 3 dell rackmount  model. Racked gear designed for SATA1. Current drives match the design speeds.

Only storage under warranty is nvme drive in my laptop. First gear I've bought new in 10 years.

Current external drives are USB v2 at best and of similar vintage to everything else.
