2GB is our minimum VM size. By the time we load on all the various agents required for things in our datacenter (IDS, monitoring, etc...) you need almost 2GB. If you get Apache under heavy load, it can chew through some memory. Our production web servers have 32GB minimum.

No server needs more than 2 GB unless running Java?!
That maybe true for small front end web servers but if you're doing major DBs or APPs 2 GB is NOT plenty even if they're not Java based. Even more active web servers use more than 2 GB.
