+1 on JD on this.
You understand sysadmin tasks (I'm assuming) and probably do some shell scripting. You probably understand the power of automation.
Ruby can help lift you to the next level in automation. Both at a config level (chef) and you can do automation with ruby too.
So, take out two targets with one shot -- DevOps and ruby.
