[ale] May need purchase Laptop - Linux Friendly

Sorry, I actually meant getting a Chromebook and loading a regular Linux distro on it. That's what Linus is doing with the Pixel. The hardware seems pretty nice for the price and you're not paying Microsoft. I haven't heard what, if anything, Google is charging the hardware manufacturers for (open source) ChromeOS though.
That said, I don't know why you couldn't do something like Blender on ChromeOS. I believe they have a native interface that gives you OpenGL access. True, the $200 Chromebook probably doesn't have the juice, but the the Pixel certainly would. I also saw a fairly impressive 3D human anatomy Chrome OpenGL demo a while back.

This is just my uninformed opinion - zero research - but I don't think chrome os or firefox os or "browser" os would give me the features and flexibility I expect from a computer, particularly as it relates to owning apps, running them off line, and manipulating lots of files on a hdd.
(Diagram THAT sentence.) (Never mind, bad memories from pre college English.)
For example, I doubt you'd ever see Blender (3d graphics design) running on a "browser" os.
Sincerely,
Ron

Please excuse my potential brevity if I'm typing on the touch screen.
(PS - If you email me and don't get a quick response, you might want to
call on the phone. I get about 300 emails per day from alternate energy
mailing lists and such. I don't always see new email messages very quickly.)
