[ale] how do I make a custom linux install boot from cd

You should configure the image to include the applications that you want to
run on the individual clients. Otherwise, the server itself runs the
program. That's not what you want, or you could just use the server by
itself. You're probably are talking about disparate machines anyway, in
which case thin clients won't work. As I understand PXE boot mode, it
requires a server on the same LAN.
