[ale] how do I make a custom linux install boot from cd

Ron, if the computers in question are on the same LAN, then it seems to me
that what you're describing is a thin client. Thin clients boot their
operating systems from an "image" that's served to them from a common
server. Customize that boot image to do what you want and you're set.
