You have to be sponsored. Technically you can do it yourself, but its like
10k, and red tape galore. Your RHCE, might as well just get the Security+.
If you are already 8570 compliant, your more likely to get hired somewhere
that will sponsor you. Likewise if you have a clearance, but not the certs
yet, same thing, you have something that others would have to catch up on.

Just to give you an idea, a Secret Clearance can take upto 18 months to
complete. You may get an interm within a month. When filling out the forms,
be honest. If you did some stupid things, they would be able to find out
about, let them know. I got my interm in about a month, and hint my license
plates for my cars is HACK3R (2 different states). And known to be at the
cons. Just be honest.

The way I got my job was I had posted my resume on the state's job board
(IN), and was called by a contracting company (most of the jobs are through
those, which is fine.) I honestly would have never applied for the job had
I of seen it. I looked at my TI and thought I was under qualified, now
realizing the person I am replacing, I am more than qualified for. So take
a chance if you want.

Regards

Matthew Conley.
