Alas, practicing the religion is harder than having it. I really need
to get around to my after vacation backups. Backing up 4 computers to
external USB is a very tedious process which takes the computer out of
service for about 5 hours and takes about 1/3 hour of my time on either
end setting up the backup and then verifying it and rebooting the
machine. Gotta do it. Gotta do it. I prefer image backups, so, if I
have to put the backup drive into service, I just swap it into the
computer, reboot, and I'm back up and running. Or, at the very least, I
can connect the backup drive to an external enclosure and immediately
access all my data. I prefer to have the backup drive disconnected when
not in use, which prevents things like a virus or power spike from
hurting it. Unfortunately, it also prevents automated backups. I have
Jungledisk --> Amazon Web Services online backup for data only every 6
hours, but one computer needs to be resetup on that as well. Oh, the
pain, the pain! Such is ... computer ... life.

(PS - If you email me and don't get a quick response, you might want to
call on the phone. I get about 300 emails per day from alternate energy
mailing lists and such. I don't always see new messages very quickly.)
