This _really_ depends of media, burn speed, storage environment, etc.

slow burn speed, really top quality media (look for archival quality -
$$$$), cool, _dark_ (no UV of any kind - no florescent lights).

CD/DVD dyes will degrade over time (chemistry happens!) so slow burn makes
more intense data bit and the rest is all about slowing down the change.

Purchased DVD media uses a stamp process to make the pits and lands so is
not subject to the same type of degradation process.
