Hi Don :)

Came across this a week ago, & I'd be glad to tell you why i'm writing
you now about this - after you answer my question (so as to not
influence your answer).

Do you still think that about Mark? If so, I'm curious what major
reasons why.

I did read some bits of the thread of
[ale] Canonical makes Apple look so good...
from 110307, which I think was the thread referenced by Jeff in:
"Going back to the discussion a couple of weeks ago about whether
Canonical (Ubuntu) is "contributing" or a parasite as some implied I
notice they don't appear in the list. "

specifically, I saw:
">From Mark Shuttleworth's blog posted earlier:
"This enables us to make the desktop available in a high quality,
fully maintained form, without any royalties or license fees. By
contrast, every other commercial Linux desktop is a licensed product –
you can’t legally use it for free, the terms for binaries are similar
to those for Windows or the MacOS."

That's completely false. It's not even *kinda* true on any grounds.
You can freely use or distribute RHEL or SLES or any other
"commercial" GNU/Linux distro without fear - because it's all GPL or
GPL-compatible.

-Lachlan"

so, I thought perhaps that might be largely your reason,
but, I wanted to ask you, Don, specifically why you thought that about
Mark.

Please respond to the ALE list. Cause, i'm "to"ing you since this thread
is a bit old, so you'll notice this.
