Sometimes job demand is higher in some locations over others. Back in
2002 finding an IT job in Atlanta was near impossible. However, I was
seeing multiple jobs in NC (Charlotte and Raleigh/Duraham/RTP area).
Also I heard that San Diego's job market at the time was burgeoning as
well as needs in places I didn't want to go like Minnesota.

In the 90s you could pretty much go anywhere you wanted if you knew
anything about computers and it wasn't unusual to see people paying for
relocations. Here in Atlanta there were many people that seemed to be
hopping from job to job to job trying to get even bigger and better pay
packages. In 2002 almost all job requests said "local applicants only"
because employers had multiple applicants in most markets.

In the last Atlanta Unix Users Group (AUUG) meeting Brian Mack of Tek
Systems (recruiter) was the speaker. Based on the discussion it sounds
as if there is a high demand for Linux knowledgeable people even if it
is only an adjunct to other requirements (e.g. HP-UX, Solaris, AIX).

I saw this sign last week (I don't remember where). I didn't look much
more into it. But seriously, they have billboard advertisements for
jobs that require relocation? WTF is up with that?
