I don't know anything about Macs, however ...
11.5 what? units do matter.
* Which NIC did you choose?
* Is the vdisk fully allocated? Sparse disk file performance ... er sucks.
* Were are the files that you're trying to transmit - inside the VM or
on the Host OS? It matters. Accessing the hostOS is slower.
* Do you have the guest additions for the same version of virtualbox
installed?
* How much vRAM? Enough?
* How many vCPUs? Are they busy?
Tips:
a) always select the virtio drivers when possible for NIC and disk.
b) If virtio is not possible, use the Intel PRO/1000 drivers (even if
your hostos is only 100base-tx - YUCK!)
c) if virtio is not possible, use the SATA drivers, not IDE.
