[ale] OT: gas going up this weekend

New Zealand was on the eve of a 1.5 cent per litre tax increase for
roads improvement but canceled it due to the added stress it would put
on it's citizens. Further increases are pending for 2012 and 2013 but
funding for these infrastructure projects is well funded so the foregone
tax will not impact future works.
Apparently the increase is an automatic increase as part of a formula
that kicks in twice annually in May and January. It is adjusted to the
average price of gas, and when that price is high then the tax jumps
accordingly. Being as this is an "automatic" increase it is claimed
that there's little state officials can do to stop the hike aside from
an executive order from Republican Governor Nathan Deal...and he has
already indicated he likely WON'T do so. But, lawmakers can vote to
adjust the formula they use to calculate the tax.
What do you think the chances are?

Hey folks, you'll want to fill up your tanks before the weekend. The GA
legislators are permitting a tax increase of 3-5 cents on a gallon of
gas May 1st.
