[ale] why would it take longer to delete a file than to createit?

Off the top of my head, you've found the list I recall.  I haven't done perf
tuning in a while so I'm fuzzy on details. Not sure if SATA drives eat the
same params as the IDE ones you listed. May not even be hdparm....

Thankfully I eat several times a day or I'd forget that too...
