Thanks, y'all.  Last night I did try Tomato in Wireless Ethernet Bridge
mode, but I think it was having trouble with the WPA2 on the Airport
Extreme.

(To the "Why an Airport Extreme?" question---A friend recommended
one to me.)

I saw a DD-WRT page that was intimidatingly full of gotchas for doing
what I want to do, but Brian's very specific steps give me enough
confidence to try that.
